Q: Will my procedure hurt?

A: Our highly-trained board-certified anesthesia personnel will administer light-to-moderate intravenous sedation to keep you comfortable and safe during your procedure.

Q: Will I know my results on the day of my procedure?

A: Your doctor will meet with you after your procedure to discuss findings and treatments. Pathology results on removed polyps or biopsies will be sent to each patient approximately two weeks after their procedure. The report explains the pathology result and when a repeat colonoscopy exam should be done.

Q: Will I be able to eat after my procedure?

A: Yes. You may eat and drink after your procedure. If you had an EGD (upper endoscopy) we recommend starting with a soft diet and then progressing to foods you would normally eat. 

Q: Will the doctor speak with me before and after my procedure?

A: Yes, your doctor will speak with you prior to your procedure and will discuss findings and treatments after your procedure. 

Q: Will I know my results on the day of my procedure?

A: Your doctor will meet with you after your procedure to discuss findings and treatments. You will received a paper copy of your results. Pathology results on removed polyps or biopsies will be sent to each patient approximately two weeks after their procedure if findings are abnormal. You will receive a letter indicating when a repeat colonoscopy exam should be done.

Q: How long will the procedure take?

A: Your time is valuable to us and total time admitted to our facility may vary. Expect your procedure to take a minimum time of 2-3hours. 

Q: What should my bowel movement look like before my procedure?

A: After completing the prescribed bowel preparation, your bowel movements should be liquid and urine colored (clear yellow). If after completing your bowel preparation, your bowel movements are still brown, please contact our staff for further instructions. 

Q: Is ice cream considered a clear liquid? 

A: No, ice cream is not considered a clear liquid. 

What do we mean by clear liquid? A clear liquid is any beverage you can see through. Please avoid any red or purple colored liquids, as these can affect the visual exam of your colon. A list of clear liquids are : sports drinks such as gatorade, Powerade, propel, green tea, black coffee, jello, Italian ice, popsicles, chicken or beef broth, apple juice, white grape juice, ginger ale, mountain dew, sprite, crystal light, water.

Q: Can I resume daily activities after my procedure?

A: After your procedure, do not plan to resume normal activities until the following day due to the effect of the sedation. Do not drive, return to work, or operate machinery or power tools. Do not make important personal or business decisions, sign legal papers, or perform any activity that depends on your full concentrating power or mental judgment.
